As our blog will soon discuss, male and female recombinations have fairly different patterns. These differences are substantial enough that for half-siblings and grandparent-grandchild pairs, it is possible to detect whether the two are related through a male or female parent. This tool is part of the CREST method for detecting close relationship types. An open source version of CREST is available.
Don’t have segments from either of these types of relatives? Try simulating.
Paste the segments from any website here. Ensure that columns are separated by spaces or tabs. You can include any fields you wish, but the tool requires at least a chromosome and start and end physical position for the segments.
