About

HAPI-DNA takes its name from the software HAPI, a tool that will soon be available on this website. HAPI stands for HAPlotype Inference, which is a technique often referred to as phasing. The goal of this website is to empower genealogists to better utilize DNA in their efforts to identify their ancestors and genetic relatives. To do this, we make genetic genealogical tools of all kinds—including HAPI and others—available for free.

The software on HAPI-DNA is the work of several researchers, most of whom have worked with Amy Williams at Cornell University. Special thanks are due to those whose work is currently featured here, including Madison Caballero, Monica Ramstetter, and Jens Sannerud. Support for this research has come from seed grants from Nancy and Peter Meinig and Cornell University, and a grant from the National Institutes of Health (R35 GM133805). More student and other researcher-led tools are coming, so check back or join our mailing list below to receive updates.
